Find out a bit more about me
I haven't always been into aviation. As a young kid, I was obsessed with horses. I was and still am a horse person; I just don't have as much to do with the Equestrian community like I used to. I used to ride an ex polo pony called Mouse. He was my best friend and will forever be my best friend. I miss him very much. Unfortunately, he passed away a few years ago now. At least I know he is safe and out of harm's way. We had many great times together, testing my riding ability and just being cheeky. He was a very cheeky pony, but was always kind and never took it too far. He really loved Polo mints. They were his favourite treat. When I would give him a polo, he would keep licking my hand; it would always put a smile on my face. Not Sure why, I guess I just found it funny. He is the one who taught me to ride and what it was like to have a true friend.
I have done arts and crafts all my life. Art doesn't need words or the English language. Which is the main reason I love it! I have dyslexia, which means my brain works a little differently. I really struggle with writing and reading sometimes. I have good and bad days. Some days, English just isn't Englishing. Art is a way for me to get my crazy ideas into the real world and out of my head without the need for words. You can see some of my digital art on my art commissions page. There's no better thing than telling someone, I'm the one who drew that. I don't think there's much understanding of what it takes to do an art piece. People who don't do art don't know how much time, skill and effort it takes to do some art pieces. Most of my digital art pieces can take anywhere from 8 hours to 40+ hours of work. It's hard and comes with a lot of challenges.
I'm a very outdoorsy person. I have done bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE). I'm hoping to do gold in the future. I also love doing rock climbing, and I have my National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) level 2 award. I like going hiking with my dog, Max. He's a Labrador retriever. He's getting on a bit now, bless him. I don't do as much hiking with him now because he's getting on in age and struggles after a while of walking.
I love doing different hobbies to teach me new things and to give me lots of skills that may come in useful in the future. One of my favourite hobbies is making Airfix kits. I got into them by accident. I went shopping and came across an Airfix section, and saw they had loads of different aircraft models. I was looking at the different ones they had. I found a Supermarine Spitfire F.MK.22 kit. I thought it might be fun to try because I love making things and painting. Making it was not easy. I had the glue, but none of the other equipment that was needed. I used what we had and managed to do an okay job on the model. I have definitely got a lot better since I did that model. One of my other hobbies is crocheting and knitting. Crochet has become a lot more popular now, but knitting hasn't. Knitting is thought of as an older person thing. I disagree. I think of knitting as a skill, and it has several uses, such as making a small bag when needed. I do prefer to do crochet, I think it's easier to make things without having to do as many parts. My favourite thing I have crocheted is a Spitfire. It took me a few weeks to make the pattern and a few more weeks to improve and fix the pattern. After all the work, it paid off and looks fantastic. I'm glad I know how to knit to keep the skill alive. A hobby I do sometimes is reading, mainly my flight training books, aircraft history books, books on different aircraft and Haynes manual. It's great to learn more things about aviation and how an aircraft works.
My website: I have learnt how to design and build my website and hope you find it helpful and informative.
Rest in peace, Mouse. I will miss you forever!
This is max. He's eleven now, but still is a big puppy and still extremely cute!
